Answer

CYNIC

A cynic is a person who believes that people are motivated purely by self interest rather than acting for honorable or unselfish reasons. The word comes from the ancient Greek Cynics, a school of philosophers who rejected conventional desires for wealth and power. Interestingly, the word derives from the Greek word for dog, as these philosophers were seen as living like dogs in their rejection of social norms.

Strategy Tip

Today's word has a repeated letter, which appears at both the beginning and end. When you get feedback showing a letter appears twice, consider whether it might bookend the word. Double letters at the start and end are rare but worth remembering!
